Toyota, Chrysler Top MPG Annual Automotive Public Relations Survey

It seems that Toyota has no other way - but up. Up and up. And the thing continues…

Despite the controversies surrounding the Japanese automaker, the company has emerged triumphant.

Earlier, the Motor Press Guild (MPG), America's largest professional automotive media association, announced that Toyota Motor Corp. and Chrysler LLC ranked as having the best overall performance in media relations.

The organization's third annual Automotive Public Relations Survey, conducted by the Gronstedt Group of Denver, Colo., measures the media's satisfaction of seven criteria of the 20 major automobile manufacturers identified as being crucial to the success of their public relations programs. Journalists are asked to rate each manufacturer's press materials, Web site, ease and frequency of contact, level of a PR staff's knowledge, product launch programs and more, the Auto Channel reported.

According to the survey respondents, the Japanese automaker, which had ranked third in last year’s study, surpassed Chrysler to take the top spot. Chrysler was second, followed closely by General Motors, Honda and Hyundai in a 3-way tie for third. Additionally, the journalists who participated gave "most improved" marks to Porsche and Honda.

"Our intent is to provide auto manufacturers with usable information from a respected national pool of journalists," said MPG's Survey Manager John Rettie. "The 2007 survey had a record 342 journalists from 36 states participate, thereby giving the automakers a truly nationwide perspective of informed opinions."

In the survey, out of the 20 manufacturers evaluated, Toyota edged past Chrysler, which had ranked at the top for 2 consecutive years, by leading the industry in 6 of the 7 measured criteria. GM, meanwhile, which had ranked near the bottom in 2005, continued an upward route, showing a 4% improvement in media satisfaction to rank third in overall public relations effectiveness this year.

"Since this was the third year MPG has sponsored the survey, it is possible to provide manufacturers with firm trends in their public relations activities," said Anders Gronstedt, president of the Gronstedt Group. "Data clearly shows what areas need improvement and how to maintain performance in those criteria where rankings are superior."

In all, 9 of the 20 companies showed improvement in their performance as judged by the survey participants. Porsche (up 22%) and Honda (up 9%) showed the most improvement over the previous year. Of significance, the survey indicates 2 areas where all automakers face challenges.

"Disappointingly, three out of 4 car companies saw the ratings of their online media rooms decline from 2006," added Rettie. "And sadly, the perception is that the PR teams among most manufacturers lack the product knowledge required to meet the needs of the media."

MPG conducts this survey every year starting 2005. This is an effort to give manufacturers continuous benchmarks on the performance of their media programs. "The bottom-line goal is to help auto manufacturers provide the best service possible to journalists, so that, in turn, journalists can give the public the information it needs and wants," concluded Rettie.

Maybe Its Ralf After All

Here I am still figuring out whether Massa will be joining Toyota Formula One next season when I got wind from pitpass.com that Ralf is talking with other teams probably for employment next season. This means that if Alonso decides to go to Ferrari (and if Ferrari is offering him Massa's seat), and Massa goes to Toyota, the Brazilian will be paired with Italian Jarno Trulli.

No doubt, this season has been tough for Toyota. The best finish that Trulli or Schumacher can achieve is sixth place. Ralf may have been a logical choice in mid-season to get the boot after dismal performances during the start of the season. But his poor performance is said to be no fault of his. According to experts, Toyota's car does not fit Ralf's driving style. In a sport such as Formula One, driver and car should be one to get the best result. Thus it is not surprising that Ralf seems to struggle. One of the things that the German has been criticized for is his failure to get past the first round of qualifying.

The German knows that it has been a tough year for him and the team. Nevertheless, he is still confident that he can finish the season on a high note. He also said that he just wants the season to be over. That's surely a sign that the German may be giving up on Toyota. "To call it a tough year is a very nice description of it," said Schumacher. "I just want to finish off the season. It's true I have been talking to other teams, (but) I won't be more specific than that. Right now, I want to get the last few races over with." That statement for me definitely shows that the German is ready to move on. Expect that any movement of drivers and teams will make waves and you might even find it posted at on EBC Brakes Blog.

Schumacher clearly showed his disappointment that he was not able to give Toyota a picture perfect performance. "When I joined Toyota, I knew it was a very big task, but it has not developed the way we expected," said the German. "To be honest, things just haven't happened. We expected points and podiums, but we didn't make it."

As for the next race and his future employment, Schumacher said: "The expectations are high again (for the Japanese Grand Prix). We just have to hope for a good weekend. I've been in the sport a long time and people know me. I'm still pretty good at it, so (moving on is) not a problem. I'm very confident. It won't be too difficult."

Massa To Toyota?

The Japanese Grand Prix is just around the corner. Both Toyota Formula One drivers Ralf Schumacher and Jarno Trulli are ready to put on a good show at Toyota's home turf. As dismaying as the season may be for our Formula One team, we can take comfort in the fact that the team and the drivers are improving with every race. I just wonder why Toyota can have the reputation for being the maker of reliable cars but in Formula One, their cars always end up malfunctioning. But I also know that the team's engineers and the drivers are doing the best they can. And one more thing, Toyota is relatively a newcomer to the sport.

Anyway, this post is about the rumor that Massa is on his way to Toyota. What do you think? Will the Brazilian leave the most popular team in the sport to go to Toyota? I don't think that he will want that. And Massa even said himself that there is no truth to the rumors going around that he will be getting the boot from Ferrari since two-time world champion Fernando Alonso is reportedly going to Ferrari after the season and will start demanding that he be the number one driver. LOL.

Let us consider Felipe Massa being sacrificed by Ferrari just to have a driver whose team they are currently accusing of spying. And if Massa will indeed go to Toyota, who will he be replacing? I mean both Jarno Trulli and Ralf Schumacher are talented drivers. But unfortunately for Toyota, both drivers just can't get a single podium this season. Earlier in the season, there were rumors that Ralf may retire after this season but the German clearly wants to race on. The younger Schumacher may be on his way out but he has been outperforming Trulli so it becomes a bit complicated.

For you, who do you think will be on his way out if Massa comes aboard?

What I think about this issue is that Toyota needs to work hard on their cars. Even if you have the world's best driver and you have a subpar car, it would take miracles to win the championship. As for Massa with Toyota, I think that the Brazilian is talented; he has shown that he can win races and may have been a serious contender for the championship if not for the mishap at the latest Grand Prix.

Toyota Recalls Floormats For Camry and Lexus

The Japanese car maker will be recalling "all-weather" floor mats used on the ongoing Camry and Lexus ES 350 units because of the noted complaints that the mats stick to the accelerator pedal and may cause accidents or crash. The news was delivered by U.S. highway regulators last Wednesday.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) will also check other vehicles including the super famous Prius and Avalon hybrids to know whether the floor mats were installed correctly and safely.

The recall will include over 30,000 mats used on the ES 350 and above 24,000 mats for the Camry.

The NHTSA checked and found out that the car product definitely does not have many problems. The only problem with it was when it was placed the floor, they stick and cause trouble on the pedal. The stack prevents the floor mats from being safely secured to its place which can cause unintended acceleration.

There are 40 complaints on this noted by the NHTSA. The testing center also recorded 12 incidents and 7 crashes due to these malfunctioning floor mats. The vehicles involved in crashes were found to have these floor mats in their interior as NHTSA said.

The improper installation of floor mats were also reported for Toyota last April and the news concludes that this malfunction happens in connection to its previous problems. Toyota is doing efforts by educating owners of the cars about the problem as well as informing them of how to properly install the product.

Toyota Panasonic: At Home In The Land Of The Rising Sun!

It’s Toyota Panasonic’s home! It’s homeward bound at last for the Japanese based team this weekend. You think they’ve got the advantage racing on their home court? The so-called home court advantage hasn’t been so evident from the past events during this season, right? So expect the unexpected… but I guess Toyota has all the confidence right now in spite of the series of frustrations from the last 4 events of the season. All I can say right now is pump your Saturn oxygen sensor because it will surely be a war of samurais in the land of the rising sun!

Panasonic Toyota Racing will be heading home this weekend for the Japanese Grand Prix at Fuji Speedway. According to NewsOnF1.com and MotorSport.com, Fuji has hosted the first Formula One World Championship in Japan way back 1976! And now, after over three decades, the adrenaline pumping event will take place once again on one of the most historical venues of F1 Racing… The Japanese Grand Prix at Fuji Speedway!

Ralf Schumacher and Jarno Trulli will have an updated TF107 available, with aerodynamic and suspension upgrades. Of course, thousands of passionate Toyota fans are expected to swarm the stadium at Fuji! The Toyota team strongly believes that they will come up strong this weekend as inspired by the great performance recorded at home!

Here are some of the insights from Toyota Panasonic drivers Ralf Schumacher and Jarno Trulli:

Ralf Schumacher:
"I remember the old Fuji circuit from my time racing in Formula Nippon in Japan and I always enjoyed racing there. One of the most impressive things about Fuji Speedway is the location, with Mount Fuji in the background. The track itself is also very impressive, especially now the facilities have been improved. It is now one of the most modern in Formula 1 but they have kept a lot of the character of the old track, with the very long main straight."

"It is going to be a challenge to set the car up because with such a long straight you certainly need top speed but on the other hand the infield is quite twisty so you want downforce there. Personally, it is great to be going to a different circuit, even if I loved racing at Suzuka, and I am looking forward to the challenge.”

Jarno Trulli:
"I drove on the circuit in 2005 just after it was completed but I only did a few laps as a demonstration and the track was very dusty. It is an interesting circuit to drive and the facilities have been completely rebuilt so they are great. It's hard to say too much about the track because it is new for all the teams but looking at the first corner, it is at the end of the long straight and quite wide so that should be a good overtaking opportunity. I am expecting a really special atmosphere for our home race and I hope we can deliver a good result."

Toyota and other Auto Makers Prepares 37 Car Models at the Tokyo Motor Show

The Toyota Motor Corporation and other Japanese car makers like the Honda Motor Corporation and Mitsubishi Motors Corporation are teaming up to reveal 37 new car models at the forthcoming Tokyo Motor Show to stop the drop in sales they have experienced. The news was taken from the report made by the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association today.

Japanese auto makers have decided to make this move to use car exhibition to stimulate demand for cars in connection with the slump on sales and demand for 17 months until August. One among the world’s most sought after auto shows is the Tokyo Show wherein Japanese car makers and other auto builders show off their latest models. The auto show will be featuring commercial cars and other passenger vehicles for the first time in 10 years.

There is a possibility that the sales for both buses and trucks may fall this year as the recent data shows a fall of 1.9% amounting to a huge 5.63 million in losses this year compared to last year's 5.74 million vehicles sold. In 1990, the Japanese car makers noted 7.78 million cars sold which is a total of 28% decline if ever they do not do something about it. During the first 8 months of 2007, Japanese carmakers only had 3.63 million cars sold as released by the Japan Automobile Dealers Association.

One among the Japanese car makers to show off their newest car models is the Nissan Motor Corporation. The third largest Japanese car maker will be showing off the Pivo2 electric car concept which was first seen two years ago at the Tokyo Motor Show. The car got new features everyone will love. Nissan has given the car concept few new features to give more comfort to the driver especially during a long drive.

Another Japanese famous car maker, Mitsubishi Motors Corporation, will be sharing what they got at the said show. They are planning to do more efforts in order to double their net income this year. The Japanese car maker said that they will be revealing two of its newest concepts namely the i MiEV Sport, which is a cocoon shaped electric mini car as well as the Concept ZT sports sedan which is given a 2.2L diesel engine matched to an aluminum frame. I am not sure if Audi, the makers of the Audi fan blade will be sharing their car models as well.

Hino Motor Limited is also sharing their car on the show. Hino is partially owned by the Toyota Motor Corporation and they will reveal their newest trucks and concept models with more fun-filled surprises and more car makers to join.

The show opens from Oct. 27 to Nov. 11 at the Makuhari Messe in Chiba Prefecture, east of Tokyo as Bloomberg released.

Trulli Rocked the Jerez

If Ralf Schumacher was able to finish 27 laps on his September 19 Jerez car racing tests, Jarno Trulli completed the three day final tests for Formula 1 which is going joined by contenders from Brazil, China and Japan. Last Tuesday, it was Franck Montagny who started the three day test and was followed by Ralf Schumacher on Wednesday and now the final days goes to the one and only Jarno Trulli who drives along the race track with his skills and key competencies ready for the racing competition.

Jarno Trulli was able to attain these results as released by MotorSport.com on their official website:

Chassis: TF107/06
Best Lap Time: 1min 21.521s
Position: 7th
Total laps: 77
Total distance: 340.571km

It was good that the weather was cooperative with Trulli. The day was sunny and warm which made him practice his skills more on aerodynamic and mechanical set ups. He was able to do his tasks well until strong winds intervened in the afternoon. But just as good as he can be, he still managed to finish his task and was also able to prepare himself for the forthcoming Japanese Grand Prix at Fuji Speedway next week.

Jarno Trulli was quoted by MotorSport saying, "It was a good day without many interruptions. We worked on both aerodynamic and mechanical set-up in the morning, found some good solutions and had a productive test up until lunch time. But then the wind came up in the afternoon and we had to change the focus to items where consistent track conditions were not so important. But we have gathered enough information to be able to study the results and hopefully make a step for the final three races."

Test Team Manager Gerd Pfeiffer also commented, "This morning, Jarno carried on the programme Ralf had started yesterday and by midday had made strong progress and was happy with the car handling and balance. But then, unfortunately, some strong winds blew up and that made conditions more unpredictable and we could no longer carry out meaningful comparison testing. We therefore switched emphasis for the final part of the afternoon. Overall we have had three solid days and collected a lot of data."

Forums about the race are also found on this link, just like the Volkswagen CV boot kit which can be purchased online as well.

Panasonic Toyota Disappointed In Belgian GP!

How bad is it for Toyota racing anyway? Well, I think the situation is way too bad for them to go home empty handed… again! I’ve been supporting their team for years and I also feel bad about how they are doing with their racing campaign this season. It feels something bad like not having the exact BMW spare parts to go along with your ride…

Anyway, going back to Panasonic Toyota Racing, they left the grounds of Spa-Francorchamps disappointed last weekend after Ralf Schumacher and Jarno Trulli finished 10th and 11th respectively in the Belgian Grand Prix which is the concluding European race of the season. Both drivers started in the top 10, with Jarno in 8th, two places in front of Ralf, but the race had a turn around after their first run on the corner. Jarno Trulli went astray in the run to the tight La Source hairpin, which includes a spot to Ralf.

Now, let’s hear it from the team and check out their remarks about the last race of the season - the Belgian Grand Prix. I got these bits of info from Motorsport.com by the way and if you want to read the whole article, just CLICK HERE:

Ralf Schumacher:
"The race was okay. I did my best and I think we got the best out of the car, but unfortunately it was not quite enough for any points. Looking at it from that perspective, it is frustrating because we pushed the car to the limit and we hoped for more after our competitive pace in practice. On Friday it looked promising but we lost out compared to the other teams and now we need to look at the reasons for that. The next race is at our home track, Fuji Speedway, so the whole team is looking forward to the Japanese Grand Prix. Clearly this is an important race. It is disappointing not to score points here but we will push hard to do that in Japan."

Jarno Trulli:
"That was a difficult afternoon for me. At the first corner I lost a few places because I had to brake and go on the outside after another car braked late. There was nothing I could do. I fell behind other cars who had more fuel on board and were much slower than me, but it was not possible to overtake because we didn't have the straightline speed. I expected more from the race and if you look at the performance of the car when I was not in traffic, we were quite competitive and I was happy with the balance. Now we will focus on Fuji Speedway for the Japanese Grand Prix and I hope we can get a better result in our home race. We will be working hard in the test this week to improve and we will try our best as always."

Toyota Team Friday Practice Update

Panasonic Toyota Racing held its practice last Friday at the Ardennes Forest on the historic Spa-Francorchamps circuit as a preparation for the Belgian Grand Prix. As we all remember, Toyota had a practice last July and both Jarno Trulli and Ralf Schumacher continued practicing their expertise today.

The weather was supportive on the day they practiced. The temperature was only like 17C on a low air with clear skies so it was definitely a good day to master the track and to test their skills on driving. The drivers practiced out their aerodynamic and mechanical set-ups to master the skills for the contest proper.

We all know about the Spa reputation in terms of weather but during that day they were able to finish their tasks making both Ralf and Jarno finish 5th and 6th fastest correspondingly. After they finish their tasks today, they will continue to do more practice on the following days focusing on other matters like improving the cars' set up and many more.

Jarno Trulli was quoted by Motorsport saying, "Today went quite well and I am pretty happy. We basically concentrated on set-up work and tyre performance. I think we are looking quite strong for this weekend, and it was good to set some competitive lap times this afternoon. I love this circuit. It is the best in the world so I am very motivated to get a good result here."

He also added, "It has everything a driver wants from a track, you are challenged everywhere and there is every different type of corner. I am pushing as hard as possible to score some points because we have been close in the last few races but always had problems. I always find myself in a good mood here at Spa so I hope for the rest of the weekend we can continue to do a good job."

Ralf Schumacher, another racer from Toyota, also said, "We went through all our planned programme and had no reliability issues, which is a positive thing. We already had a good idea of set-up from our test here earlier this year but of course the conditions were not exactly the same today. We expected to be reasonably strong here after our test earlier in the year and this seems to be the case, judging by today's lap times. I am relatively happy with the pace we showed."

Schumacher added, "Qualifying has been very close in the last few races with only one or two 10ths making a big difference so we will work hard to optimise our car in time for qualifying. I am optimistic about our chances and hopefully we can fight for a strong result in qualifying and then the race."

The Chief Engineer Race and Test Dieter Gass was also quoted saying, "It was a positive day for us. We ran through our programme of set-up and tyre work very smoothly, and our lap times were quite encouraging. From the test here in July we had a good base line set-up already so we just needed a bit more fine tuning to adapt to the conditions here and get the most out of our package, which we did with steady progress through the two sessions."

Moreover, he added, "We also got quite a good picture of how the soft and medium tyres behave. Both cars did a lot of miles today without any significant technical problems. As usual, it is only a Friday and people are running different programmes so we will have to wait and see. However, I hope we can keep the momentum going for the rest of the weekend."

These are the result I took from Motorsports.com which was also taken from Toyota’s official website.

Jarno Trulli
Chassis: TF107/04
First Session: 8th
19 laps completed
Lap Time: 1m 48.994s (+1.655s)
Second Session: 5th

Lap Time: 1m 47.491s (+0.837s)

Ralf Schumacher
Chassis: TF107/05)
First Session: 12th
21 laps completed
Lap Time: 1m 49.548s (+2.209s)
Second Session: 6th
32 laps completed
Lap Time: 1m 47.946s (+1.292s)

Experts Agree, Toyota On Track To Become The Largest Automaker

It is very much obvious that Toyota is on a roll - well, except in the Nextel Cup and in Formula One. More and more Toyota vehicles can be seen cruising on the roads of the United States. For months and months, the automaker has posted increase in sales. And now, CNNMoney.com reported that experts have agreed that Toyota is on track to become the largest automaker in the world. And the company can achieve that feat in spite of some setbacks.

A stronger yen is one of the setbacks. Toyota is favored by a weak yen because they export most of their vehicles to the United States. That means more profit for the automaker. The lowering demand for vehicles in the United States auto market is not slowing down Toyota either. We have seen sales for some months drop for all of the major automakers - a sign that car buyers are dwindling. And then, a major setback happened due to a natural disaster. It can be remembered that earlier this year, an earthquake damaged Toyota's key supplier of auto parts as reliable as the Mazda CV boot.

According to the oldest brokerage firm in Japan, Nomura Securities: "Demand in Asia was stronger than expected (in the first quarter), and there's been a pause in the rise in materials prices. The terms of trade for the car industry are improving."

During the second quarter of the year, the automaker reported an increase of 33 percent in pretax profit compared to their earnings a year ago for the same period. In Asia, excluding Japan, the automaker posted an increase of 49 percent. This shows how much the growing Asian auto market is giving Toyota a boost in the middle of declining demand for vehicles in the United States.

Although the demand for vehicles in the United States have dwindled, Toyota and other Japanese automakers have impressed analysts by still showing increased sales month after month. This means that while the demand is reduced, so is the sales of American automakers. Last month, the Big Three's combined share in the auto market has dropped below 50 percent showing that European and Japanese automakers are still gaining despite the weaker demand. Last June, the US car market showed decline of 2 percent. But in the face of that, Toyota was still able to post an increase of 2 percent in sales.

The United States auto market is the biggest market for Toyota and fellow Japanese car companies. Last year, sales in North America made up one fifth of their total sales.

Toyota Upgrades the Altis

I was actually having a hard time looking for Saturn hubcaps on the net. So I decided to look for news about Toyota. I just feel the need to feed this site with new info and reading news updates is just what I need.

Anyway, the Toyota Motor Corporation revived the looks of the Altis model that it sells in Malaysia. It was one among the most famous sedan cars in the mentioned market and the movement to revamp the car was another part of its boosting its market presence. The news was from The Star early this morning.

UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd managing director Datuk David Chen said that the decision to revamp the Altis was in a view of Proton consolidating and the Japanese car maker is strategically doing an alliance while some car makers are revealing new models that could be a threat to the famous existence of Altis in Malaysian car market.

He said on a statement, “A new Altis will help Toyota keep abreast with competition.” Chen commented on this matter at the opening of the new Toyota dealership in Kelantan as headed by UMW Toyota chairman Tan Sri Asmat Kamaludin.  Chen also revealed that Toyota is planning to produce 18,000 units for all models to be able to hit the target sales of these brands.

He also informs that the sale of the car during the first half of the year were slower with the present economic status on the new car market because of the demand for used cars. However, he also said that Toyota remained positive on this matter. The Japanese car maker is hoping to sell more on the future.

The new dealership employs 23 service workers. These workers will be responsible for all the activities on the showrooms including daily maintenances. It was the very first dealership in the area with internet services for their customers.

Malaysia car market also has the Toyota Avanza and Innova which has been doing great on their sales.

Expectations For Toyota-JGR Tie-Up

I know you are excited with the tie-up between the Subaru Legacy radiator hot-like Joe Gibbs Racing with Toyota in the next season of the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series. With the highest ranked Toyota driver this year only in 36th place, there is definitely room for improvement for Toyota teams. And the fact that a championship-caliber team like Joe Gibbs Racing working with Toyota next season could only be good news for the automaker on track to become the largest automaker in the world. Could next year see Toyota becoming the undisputed largest automaker of the world, a champion in the Craftsman Truck Series, champion in the Nextel Cup Series, and the constructors' champion in Formula One? Hmmm… that would really be an amazing feat.

According to Lee White, the vice president and general manger of Toyota Racing Development or TRD in the United States, they are expecting that the arrival of JGR into Toyota's camp next year will have a ripple-down effect which will positively affect other Toyota teams next year. "And given the combined resources, I think it's going to be moved along quite quickly," White said

Bill Davis, the owner of Bill Davis Racing, also believe that Joe Gibbs Racing drivers will be competitive next year with the Toyota Camry but he is not sure what the arrangement will be in terms of sharing information. "I don't know that we'll share a word," said Davis. "But it all just filters across the board with Toyota. If they help make Toyota stronger, everyone will benefit. I think it will be good to have that solid of a team, a championship-caliber team involved. It will just raise the level of information, and I think it will be good."

Davis also pointed out that the high performance of Toyota teams in the Craftsman Truck Series should not be compared to what is going to happen in the Nextel Cup. He pointed out that Toyota teams in the Truck series have the same chassis and whatnot because only one firm builds the Toyota chassis for the Toyota Trucks. But in the Cup Series, each team is responsible for building their chassis. "We don't have that over here (on the Nextel Cup side). Everybody's got different chassis. We haven't had that benefit that we've had in the Truck Series. So you really can't compare the two," said Davis.

"And it's not going to change in the Cup series. I mean, Gibbs Racing isn't going to share information with Bill Davis - and I don't expect them to. But the level of the performance of the Toyota, it will just help us all overall," Davis said further.

Toyota Sent U.S. Teachers To Galapagos Island!

Today, it’s not going to be the usual Toyota auto parts post like the reliable Subaru fan clutch or whatsoever! Yes, we’re going to talk about teachers, specifically U.S. teachers. Anyway, have you been or have you heard the place called Galapagos Island? Me, yah - but not until I read the news from TheAutoChannel.com that made me realize that there is a program called the Toyota International Teacher Program!

A part of the project’s plans is to send 24 US teachers - the chosen groups of licensed teachers from all over the states are bound to fly going to Glalapagos Island, a rich designated World Heritage that is located in Ecuador.

The chosen educators will pay a visit to the well-known sites on the islands of Santa Cruz and San Cristobal. They will monitor environmental plan talks with professionals and society leaders. They will participate in actions that encourage global awareness about ecological protection.

"We're proud to provide teachers from around the country an opportunity to explore the Galapagos Islands - home to one of the world's richest ecosystems and a place where conservation and sustainability are critical to the survival of future generations. The global perspective teachers will gain from this experience and take back to their classroom and communities will help teach lessons in environmental responsibility that will last a lifetime," says Michael Rouse, the corporate manager for philanthropy and community affairs at Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A., Inc.

The teacher program is just one area of Toyota's involvement with the Galapagos Islands. Working cooperatively with the World Wildlife Fund, Toyota has been helping to conserve the unique ecosystem of the Galapagos Islands since 2001. Using its expertise in efficiency, waste minimization, energy use, recycling and lifecycle and systems thinking, Toyota has supported and/or funded many projects and programs in the Galapagos Islands, including a redesign of the main fuel-handling facility, renewable energy teacher education workshops and oil and municipal recycling programs. Community education and outreach have been key components of all projects."

Studying nature and its conservation first hand and in a setting beyond our borders will teach key lessons about globalization and the world we share," says IIE President and CEO Dr. Allan E. Goodman.

Toyota FJ Cruiser Going to China on December

The Guangzhou Toyota authorized dealership in Beijing has stated just recently that the 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser will be imported to China.  It will be sold under Toyota’s sales network starting this coming December.

Upon arrival at dealer showrooms, the FJ Cruiser will be priced 600,000 yuan ($79,500).  It is quite pricey but Toyota believes that this value-laden SUV will be contributing to the growing name of Toyota in the Chinese market, just as its two predecessors (Guangzhou Toyota’s Camry and Highlander) have done.

Specially built for the China, this Toyota vehicle will be powered by a 4.0 L V6 engine with 245 hp and 282 lb-ft of torque.  Both 4x2 and 4x4 configurations will have five-speed automatic transmission.  For 4x4 models, six-speed manual transmission shall be an option.

Based from theautochannel.com, among standard features included are:
  • 17 inches Steel Wheels
  • Four Wheel Disc Brakes
  • Star Safety System
  • Vehicle Stability Control and traction control
  • Anti-lock Brake System with electronic brake-force distribution and brake assist
Though Toyota FJ Cruiser does not suit my taste, I strongly feel that both young and average Chinese enthusiasts will love this Toyota vehicle as much as they had with the previous Toyota models before.  Its tough looks simply shows that it possibly has better rotors than the typical Mazda Rotors.  However, we shall know the accurate charm of the FJ Cruiser not until early 2008.  By that time, the appeal of this Toyota vehicle will be revealed.

JGR With Toyota Next Season

While Toyota is just doing well in the auto market, so well in fact that it has eclipsed General Motors' sale last year, the company's teams in the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series is doing, well, just about the opposite.  Currently, Toyota teams include Michael Waltrip Racing, Bill Davis Racing, Team Red Bull, Riley D'Hondt Motorsports, and Germain Racing.  These teams fields Toyota Camry cars engineered for the demands of racing in the Nextel Cup which I think has reliable components which are as reliable as a VW spark plug wire. Unfortunately for Toyota, they haven't one a single race this season.  But next season, their chances of winning races will significantly increase as the Japanese juggernaut is expected to partner with one of the top teams in the sport and that is Joe Gibbs Racing.

The team though is silent about this issue.  But one driver also making a change next year is more than happy to spoil the surprise. Kyle Busch, currently driving for Hendrick Motorsports, is on his way to JGR after Dale Earnhardt Jr. was signed by Hendricks for the next season. Last Friday, Busch said in an interview at the California Speedway that they "were just always kept in the loop on what exactly was going to happen with that and, when they finally made their decision, they went ahead and called us."  And when asked what the call was about, the driver said "they (JGR) were going with Toyota."

JGR has won three of the last seven championships in the Nextel Cup Series and employs the services of high caliber drivers such as two-time champion Tony Stewart and Denny Hamlin. Busch said that he is okay about driving a Toyota for the next season.  "I got the call and pretty much was OK with it," he said. "It's something more so that crew chiefs, the engineers and all those guys need to approve on."

Meanwhile, Busch's future teammate Hamlin is positive that the team will be performing well next season even with the change in their main sponsor.  "I'm part of Gibbs' family, regardless of what I'm driving," Hamlin said. "I know Gibbs is a good enough organization to where they're going to make anything work, whether it's Chevrolet, Toyota, Dodge. It doesn't matter to me because they're willing to put in the resources to make these cars run well. To me, it's just a matter of doing my job and letting them handle the business part of it."

So if you are a fan of Toyota, expect them to win races next season.
