6月29日 Prius’ Big Brother Is Coming![]() The appeal and popularity of the Prius cannot be denied. After all, Toyota would not have sold a million hybrids if the Prius is a slow seller. But it seems that Toyota is not content with just the Prius. At least that’s what Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported. The Japanese newspaper recently reported that a new hybrid, which will be coming bigger than the Prius, is currently being developed by the largest Japanese car manufacturer. The said vehicle is supposed to be a hybrid-only vehicle. This means that it will be the second hybrid-only offering from our beloved Toyota. Today, Toyota is marketing seven hybrid vehicles but all of them, except the Prius, are also going to be offered with a gasoline engine only. Existing nameplates for Toyota have been given hybrid versions such as the Camry, and the Highlander. The newspaper though did not mention what the new hybrid car will be called. But according to the publication, the new vehicle will be equipped with an engine with a 2 to 3 liter displacement. That engine is significantly larger than the one used in the Prius which is only 1-5 liters in displacement. Even the rumored 1.8-liter engine for the redesigned Prius is still dwarfed by the engine of the new hybrid. According to Nihon Keizai Shimbun, the Toyota Motor Kyushu will be tasked with the production of the new hybrid. If the report is indeed true, the new hybrid-only vehicle will be launched as a 2010 model. If that is the case, it will be introduced following the unveiling of the redesigned Prius which we Toyota lovers are all waiting for. Experts in the industry though are fearful that the bigger hybrid will cannibalize the sale for the Camry Hybrid. Since the new unnamed hybrid will be equipped with a 2 to 3-liter engine, it will compete with the Camry. Would this mean that the Camry Hybrid will go the way of the Accord Hybrid? But the introduction of a bigger hybrid-only car will boost Toyota’s reputation as a manufacturer of green cars. Also, the new hybrid will help Toyota achieve its goal of selling a million hybrid vehicles every year by 2010. Of course, the introduction of a new hybrid will
increase the choice for hybrid car buyers.
This would surely be welcomed by the general public which is now growing
more and more environmentally conscious.
The new hybrid and the Prius though would have to provide good fuel
economy and a high power output. This is
because they will be facing stiff competition from diesel engined vehicles
which will soon be introduced in the global auto market.

6月20日 Toyota Starts Building Mississippi PlantThe Toyota Motor Corporation has revealed a plan to build a Mississippi plant a few months ago. And now, the Japanese auto maker is pursuing the plan. Engineer Chad Wages who is working with the PUL Alliance as well as the Three Rivers Planning and Development District said that the production plant will be built starting this month. He said, "They might have a bulldozer to take down some small trees in the path but landowners will be compensated for any damage that might occur. We don't anticipate any." The building of this plant in Mississippi is a part of Toyota’s plan to build another automotive production plant in the Wellspring industrial site which is 15 miles away from Tupelo. The Japanese car company said that the production plant will be responsible for the production of its Highlander SUV which will be beginning this 2010. Together with Union and Lee counties and Pontotoc repressed by PUL Alliance, Toyota will be working with them in order to make the Wellspring production site come to life. Director Randy Kelley of
Three Rivers said that the PUL Alliance
will be responsible for the work on their Mississippi Department of
Transportation so as to secure route for the frontage road. It has already
managed the operation and is also managing the site.
6月13日 Toyota Is Number 1![]() It wasn’t long ago that Toyota was just another Asian car manufacturer trying to make a name for itself in the global auto market by competing with the Big Three - General Motors, Ford, and Chrysler. Recently, the brand from the Land of the Rising Sun has become the biggest car manufacturer in the world according to Automotive News. While I’ve always liked Toyota cars and trucks, I thought that they would have a strong fight to become the biggest there is. While other Asian brands such as Nissan with their vehicles sporting that aggressive-looking Nissan headlight has also became popular in the United States, Toyota still remains as the brand to beat. According to Automotive News, Toyota sold 128,000 units more than General Motors for the 2006 fiscal year. The Japanese car making giant sold 8,808,000 units last year while General Motors only sold 8,679,860 units. While it is clear that Toyota has beaten General Motors, the Detroit, Michigan-based car manufacturer claimed that the paper should include the 420,140 units that they have produced with the Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp. If that would be added, General Motors’ sale would be 9,100,000. Considering Toyota’s strong sales in the early part of this year, General Motors can only hope to hold their claim to the throne as late as the end of the year. During the first quarter of this year, Toyota has already beaten General Motors in terms of sales. Even with the revitalized Saturn brand with its new Outlook and the Saturn hub cap-equipped Aura challenging the Camry, Toyota is on its way to claim the throne that General Motors has held for the past 76 years. For this year, Toyota expects to sell 9.34 million units of
vehicles while General Motors only projects a sale of 9.2 million. With that in mind, Toyota is surely on its way to becoming the
undisputed king of car manufacturers.
6月7日 The Most Expensive Toyota Truck![]() The Japanese car manufacturer is bringing the fight to the Big Three. It is known that General Motors, Ford, and the Chrysler Group corner the largest portion of the United States truck market. While these three car makers are known for their big cars, Toyota is better known for its affordable, reliable, fuel efficient small cars. Recently though, the Japanese car manufacturer came up with a redesigned Tundra truck which is considered as a strong contender in the truck market. The Tundra comes in different trim levels - the most expensive of which is the CrewMax. The initial reaction towards the Tundra is that it is a good competitor but needs to be improved to gain supremacy over the trucks manufactured by the Big Three. But for those who are looking for more power with the Tundra, aftermarket parts like Magnaflow components can be integrated to the Tundra for a better performance. The CrewMax is the biggest of the Tundras and it is of course obvious that it has the most powerful engine in the Tundra lineup. In fact, the power produced by the CrewMax’s engine would need something like a BMW brake booster to control it efficiently. According to Toyota’s website, here are the specs for the three engine choices for the Tundra: Engine 1
Engine 2
Engine 3
The CrewMax has a starting price of $29,675 for the two-wheel drive version while for the four-wheel drive version, pricing starts at $32,725. 6月1日 Power Your Way with the 2007 Toyota Tacoma![]() For every tough task we meet, we need something to help us get through it.
